Pen Underwriting today announces the appointment of Robert Dobson as Marine Claims Manager across the diverse range of specialisms which now make up Pen’s fast-growing
marine practice.
Pen’s expanding team of technical underwriting and risk mitigation experts in this area cover everything from ports & terminals, marine trades and brown water hull to marine professionals, war risks and kidnap & ransom. Most recently, Pen announced the launch of a new London market yachts specialism to support the growing global yacht industry.
Bringing more than 40 years’ industry experience – all of which have been focused on marine claims management and adjusting – Robert has served in a range of senior marine claims director and management roles including at Argo Global, Aon, and Chubb Insurance Company of Europe.
During his career, Robert has been responsible for handling and managing all types of marine claims from hull and machinery to cargo, liabilities and yacht, while enhancing control of claims through the provision of technical advice and expertise and working closely with underwriting teams.
Paul Hartley, Co-Managing Director of Marine at Pen, said: “Rob’s extensive experience of managing claims across the full spectrum of the specialist marine market, coupled with his technical expertise and knowledge, make him the ideal leader for marine claims within Pen. “Claims expertise has always been an essential part of Pen’s service proposition to best support our niche underwriting operations, and marine is now a significant and growing area of specialism within the wider business. Delivering a first-class claims service is not only important for our brokers and clients, but also our committed capacity partners who place their trust in us. That’s why it is fantastic to welcome Rob to lead on marine claims as we continue to look for new opportunities to sustainably grow the niche marine business within Pen.”
Robert Dobson commented: “I’ve watched Pen’s marine capabilities go from strength to strength since it entered this specialist market in 2023 and am excited to join an ambitious business focused on disciplined, sustainable growth. Claims plays a major part in that. So I’m looking forward to working closely with our marine underwriters across their niche areas of expertise as well as Pen’s wider claims division to continue delivering what our clients, colleagues and capacity need.”
Trafalgar Marine Trades, Vessel Protect, BMM Ports & Terminals, Fortify Marine and Freeboard Maritime are all trading names of Pen Underwriting Limited, which focus on different areas of specialist marine underwriting expertise. Specialist Norwegian managing general agent Fender Marine is also part of Pen Underwriting.
